Cocktail bartenders are responsible for the preparation and serving of a variety of drinks, and must know dozens of drink recipes (mixology) and have customer service skills, bar etiquette, presentation technique, sales ability, and product knowledge.

Flair bartending is also known as extreme or performance bartending and incorporates bottle flipping and other choreographed elements into drink preparation and presentation.
